Management in conditions of uncertainty requires a skill that at first glance contradicts the very role of a leader — intellectual humility. It is the willingness to rely on what is already known and to acknowledge that someone else may know better than you, even if you are the boss. For many managers this sounds like a paradox, and therefore the reaction to the very word "humility" in the context of management is often wary.

The desired future state is born from within.

The future is partly amenable to extrapolation. In part, we can understand how events develop and what may happen. We know nothing, but we can always calculate a few scenarios. And then we can prepare ourselves to work best under any of these scenarios, focusing on what we should be like.
