On February 13, well-known journalists, editors, media managers, and media experts visited kmbs during the second MediaDay of Georgiy Gongadze Prize.
“The worst of times, the best of times: the ways those who tell us about Ukraine and the world change” is the topic discussed during the event.
During the talk with Pavlo Kazarin, NV Project Manager Vitalii Sych outlined the media market trends, told how the quarantine affected the work of the editorial office, and tried to predict how the transition to the Ukrainian language would affect profits.
Vakhtang Kipiani, Yevhen Hlibovytskyi, Larysa Denysenko, Natalia Lyhachova, and Myroslava Barchukdiscussed the values of modern journalism, and Myroslava Gongadze shared the peculiarities of working in the USA.
The editor-in-chief of Ukrainska Pravda, Sevgil Musayeva and the leaders of fresh projects were looking for sustainable business models in the media market, while well-known video bloggers were discussing the specifics of working on YouTube.
It is symbolic that the event took place at kmbs, the place where the idea of the Award for Journalists Contributing to the Development of the Ukrainian Media Environment was implemented 3 years ago with the support of kmbs dean Oleksandr Savruk and business school graduates.
When welcoming the MediaDay participants, Oleksandr Savruk told why he immediately believed in this idea:
“I am very pleased that kmbs is a co-founder of the Georgiy Gongadze Prize. We think that the development of independent journalism is crucial for Ukraine, and this event is a sign that we are moving in the right direction. Our business school has always been and is a place of power for people who create, not imitate. This is precisely what are our graduates are, they act as patrons of the Award and are aware of the value of independent journalism”.
In total, over the years of the Award existence, it has been supported by 18 members of the kmbs alumni community. During the MediaDay, Presidents' MBA graduate Anton Artemenko said what motivates him to be a patron of the Georgiy Gongadze Prize:
“We all graduated from kmbs being a bit different, with a feeling and an inner need to promote the development of the Ukrainian humanities because it's about our culture, about the mental environment we live in. This is what motivates me to support Georgiy Gongadze Prize – the initiative that influences the development of the Ukrainian media field, and implements projects not about the past, but about our common future”.
Graduates take part in the development of the Award management processes, get involved in the creation of its strategy, participate in the award ceremony and private events dedicated to the development of Ukrainian independent journalism.
