Reconstruction of Ukraine: meeting with representatives of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry
On January 23, the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School was visited by special guests — representatives of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

Opening the meeting, Ihor Bartkiv, Ukraine Project Support Officer at LCCI, shared an analogy: Ukraine today faces challenges similar to those faced by Great Britain after the German attacks during World War II. "The reconstruction process will be as monumental as the reconstruction of Europe in general and Great Britain in particular," says Mr. Igor. — The resources and efforts required for this process are not available to any individual people. Therefore, the role of the international private sector is invaluable." And the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry has the considerable experience that can be useful to Ukraine.

The event's keynote speaker, Richard Burge, CEO of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, mentioned a quote by the writer Ian Fleming: "From the ashes of disaster grow the roses of success." The international business community has been ready to work with Ukrainians for years to nurture these roses.

"We understand that the war can last a long time. It will not be an easy victory, but we are with you, — assured Mr. Richard. —  And this is not only about military aid but also about what will happen after the war when Ukraine leaves the front pages of newspapers because there will no longer be Russian troops on its land. Then the hard work will begin — and we will be with you like now."

Mr. Richard also emphasized the importance of solidarity for business. "It is impossible to do business if you only rationally weigh the pros and cons, risks and probabilities. In the end, it all boils down to what someone says: solidarity, about being with people. And this is exactly what we are trying to do."

Andrew Marsden, sheriff, member of the Common Council of the Corporation of London, and chairman of the Barbican, shared his experience in the field of marketing. In particular, he advised Ukrainian companies: "It is necessary to remind you that you are still here and working. After all, a large part of the world thinks that Ukraine is busy with war — and that's all. And your technology sector grew by 3% even last year — incredible!".

And Tom Slag, a member of the Modern Council of the Corporation of London, emphasized that doing business means taking risks. And he recommended to those present: "You need to have a risk appetite. Someone takes big risks. Someone acts more cautiously — it's up to you to decide where you are on this scale. The main thing is to take risks."

The guests talked with the event participants, answered their questions, and repeatedly expressed their support for Ukraine and its business community. We thank the representatives of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry for their visit to kmbs and look forward to continued fruitful cooperation!
