Taras Liutyi won the Yurii Shevelov Prize in 2020
In the book Culture of Temptations and Resistance, the Ukrainian philosopher and writer offered an author's view of the cultural realities in which we live and covered various topics — from ideology to pop culture and mass movements.
The award ceremony was traditionally held at kmbs on the birthday of Yurii Shevelov, a prominent writer and literary critic who originated modern Ukrainian essays.
It is a great honor for kmbs to continue his work, presenting contemporary essayists to Ukraine and the world as well as it’s a part of the value component that participants receive in the business school.
Reflecting in the essay genre, managers learn to formulate and structure their own thoughts, find new meanings in business activity and develop a crucial ability of abstract and strategic thinking.
While giving the prize to the awardee, kmbs Dean Oleksandr Savruk said,
“It is important for us to be involved in this process, especially when the winner is also a philosopher. The outstanding role of a philosopher is that he is not afraid to be himself, and has the right to unobtrusively offer ways to assess, understand and interpret the situation around.”
Art critic Diana Klochko shared her impressions on the author's work at the award ceremony,
“This book is very fearless, as Taras Liutyi rethinks the themes of temptation and resistance. Different puzzles turn into a great road from the 19th century to the modern times we live in. Going beyond the 20th century, Taras Liutyi made a breakthrough.”
Two special awards were also presented within the framework of the Yurii Shevelov Prize.
The writer Oksana Zabuzhko (The Sagebrush Planet issued by Komora Publishing House) received a special award from the Chapter for her contribution to the development of Ukrainian essays and the promotion of Yurii Shevelov's legacy.
Along the Ocean on a Rover, the collection of essays (Yakaboo Publishing) by writer Vasyl Makhno was awarded the Special Award from UA: Radio Culture.
Sincere congratulations from kmbs to Taras Liutyi, special awards winners and all the award finalists!
