This institution became the nucleus from which the Academy was born. In 1632, thanks to Metropolitan Petro Mohyla, the school was transformed into an academy — the first higher education institution in Eastern Europe modeled after Western European universities.
Among its alumni are Ivan Mazepa, Feofan Prokopovych, Hryhorii Skovoroda, and many other figures who contributed to shaping the intellectual and state-building traditions of Ukraine.
Throughout the centuries, the Academy has remained a center of free thought, ideological independence, and the preservation and development of culture. Since its revival in 1992, it has become a stronghold of modern Ukrainian education, combining academic freedom, humanistic depth, and innovation.
“Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is tightly interwoven into the history and culture of Ukraine. Its professors and alumni have crafted the intellectual and scientific fabric of the Ukrainian dimension, shaping the character of the nation.
The academic community of Mohyliantsi creates an environment of creators of modern Ukraine, develops civil society, and defends democratic values,”
—Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, graduate of the Strategic Architect School at kmbs.
At Kyiv-Mohyla Business School, we are proud that our graduates, as part of the broader Mohyla community, continue the Academy's legacy — thinking strategically, acting responsibly, and shaping Ukraine’s future.
