Therefore, leaders now need to master a new skill that was not previously necessary — managing through empathy, inclusivity, and trauma sensitivity.
A leader is a virtuoso: like a grandmaster in chess, a maestro in music, or a polyglot in languages. This is a person who knows how to work effectively with a wide range of human characters, traits, and values.
Promises cannot be made: to promise, one must have control over the situation, and there is no control. People appreciate when they are spoken to in a timely and scenario-based manner — "if not this, then that" — in a mature way, when nothing is hidden from them and communication is constructive. Not "everything is lost" and not "we know nothing," but calmly: here we can control, and here we cannot.
Therefore, it is important that teams have mutual support and skill interchangeability: so that people can take over each other's tasks during recovery.
