Open kmbs liveDavid Rieff is a New York journalist and author. During the 1990s, he covered conflicts in Africa (Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Liberia), the Balkans (Bosnia and Kosovo), and Central Asia. He devoted many works to Iraq and Latin America, and now he covers the war in Ukraine. He has numerous publications in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Le Monde, El Pais, The New Republic, World Affairs, Harper's, The Atlantic Monthly, Foreign Affairs, and The Nation. He authorizes eight books, including Slaughterhouse: Bosnia and the Failure of the West and A Bed for the Night: Humanitarianism in Crisis. Riff's latest book, In Praise of Forgetting: the Irony of Historical Memory, was published in April 2016 by Yale University Press. David Riff is also the author of Swimming in a Sea of Death, his son's loving tribute to his mother, author Susan Sontag, and the story of her battle with cancer.
The event is organized jointly with the Department of Literary Studies, named after Volodymyr Morenets, National Academy of Arts and Sciences.
