Business innovation: creating new value and developing people
Strategy. Business Model. Systems
Подкаст на цю тему
In a rapidly changing world, businesses increasingly face challenges that require new approaches and quick adaptation. Many leaders choose unprofitable stability over investing in the pursuit of innovation, believing that in difficult circumstances, it is better to stick to proven methods. However, the ability to generate unconventional ideas, change established processes, and create additional value for customers is crucial for a company's survival and prosperity. In the podcast "Why Innovations Are Impossible Without Constant Contact with Customers?" with Serhiy Nozdriachov and Olena Maltseva, they discussed how innovation is not just about technology or breakthrough startups, but primarily about the desire to be creators, to foster a culture of trust, and to support the development of people who are not afraid to experiment.

In a rapidly changing world, businesses are increasingly facing challenges that require new approaches and quick adaptation. Many leaders opt for unprofitable stability instead of investing in the search for innovations, believing that in difficult circumstances, sticking to proven methods is safer. However, the ability to generate unconventional ideas, change established processes, and create additional value for customers is crucial for a company's survival and prosperity. In the podcast "Why Innovations Are Impossible Without Constant Contact with Customers?" with Serhiy Nozdriachov and Olena Maltseva, it was discussed that innovation is not just about technology or breakthrough startups, but primarily about the desire to be creators, to foster a culture of trust, and to support the development of people who are not afraid to experiment.

Innovation as an Opportunity for Prosperity
There is a common perception that innovation is largely about technical inventions or ultra-modern products. However, Serhiy Nozdriachov emphasizes that innovation is about creating _new value_ for the customer based on a deep understanding of their needs. If a company recognizes its strengths, is capable of listening to its customers, and has a desire to generate ideas, these are already the first steps towards an innovative breakthrough.

Today many entrepreneurs say, "We don’t have time for this." Yet, it is precisely now that we lay the foundation for future development. Regardless of whether we are experiencing a crisis or a stable period, innovation remains a driver of growth. If we wait for better times, we risk losing opportunities: the need for adaptation grows, and competitors who manage to experiment will be the first to enter new markets.

Types of Innovations
To better understand how to implement innovation, we must distinguish between them:
Disruptive innovations
These involve the creation of an entirely new market or attracting customers that didn’t previously exist. A classic example is when a product fundamentally changes the rules of the game, such as when smartphones created a vast market for applications and changed communication approaches.

Sustaining innovations
These refer to improvements in products or services to create a more attractive offering for existing customers. This allows an organization to gradually develop, maintain its market positions, and better meet the audience's needs.

Efficiency innovations
These involve improving internal processes that optimize the company's operations. This may include automation, new management approaches, and the introduction of Agile methodologies. Through efficiency, businesses can reduce costs, increase productivity, and respond more rapidly to market changes.

Conditions for the Development of Innovations: What Businesses Need
To ensure that innovations do not turn into mere displays of bright slides, a company must create a conducive environment.

The Right People and Teams
Serhiy Nozdriachov discusses corporate “kamikaze”—employees who care and are not afraid to take risks. These individuals drive the company towards experimentation, even knowing that some ideas may not work out. However, it is the failures that often lead to the most valuable discoveries if the company analyzes the results wisely.

Limited Resources, but Plenty of Time
An excess of resources often leads to seeking comfortable solutions. However, when the budget is tight, there is an incentive to find genuinely effective ideas instead of accumulating countless hypotheses. What's essential is having enough time to test each idea and analyze the results.

Culture of Openness and Experimentation
Innovations cannot form in an atmosphere of fear and judgment. If every experiment ends in punishment, people become cautious, repeating the same actions to avoid risk. In contrast, in companies where mistakes are viewed as learning experiences, truly groundbreaking ideas emerge.

Ongoing Contact with Customers
The main goal of innovation is to create value. To understand whether what is being developed is truly needed by the market, it is necessary to constantly gather customer feedback. Without this, it is easy to get lost in hypotheses and create a product that no one wants.

Involvement of Leaders in Supporting and Developing People
The best leaders, as noted by Serhiy Nozdriachov, primarily care about the employees. When employees have real opportunities to learn, communicate with customers, and feel connected to the outcomes, they will generate solutions that are valuable both for the business and society.

People as a Key to Success
Many companies still focus on processes and tools, underestimating the role of the team. However, innovations are always created by people willing to think outside traditional frameworks. Without the right motivation and openness to ideas, no magical methodologies will yield the desired results.

Motivation and Trust
When a company invests in the development of its people, encourages feedback, and shares experiences, it returns exponentially. If employees feel that their ideas are heard and can be implemented, they become interested in further seeking improvement.

Transparent Communications
Regular updates on successes, achievements, or difficulties in projects strengthen mutual trust. People understand their contributions and how they affect the final outcome, fostering a sense of involvement and responsibility.

Love and Respect
According to the speakers, engaging with employees can only be successful through love. This is not a lofty statement, but rather an acknowledgment that people give more when they feel supported, respected, and valued. In such an environment, inspiration is born, and the desire to achieve great objectives arises.

Why Act Now?
Innovation is primarily about the future and preparing the company for what awaits it beyond the horizon. It is not only a means to survive in a changing market but also an opportunity to become a leader and shape the rules of the game for others.

At a time when some expect things to revert to how they once were, others are already revising business models, experimenting, and implementing new ideas. Those players are highly likely to become the leaders who will dictate the market’s direction tomorrow.

"Happy people create value that makes the customer happy, and then the top managers and shareholders will be happy," this statement from the conversation highlights the extraordinary importance of the human factor in innovation. Organizations that invest in team development and foster openness to the new will lead in the long term.
