Laureate of the Yuri Shevelyov Prize - Andriy Bondar
The winner of the Yuri Shevelyov Prize was Andriy Bondar with the book of essays "Treats for Medor"

Andriy Bondar is a poet, translator, and prose writer, but he is best known for his literary essays. His essays - "Carrot Ice," "And those in the tombs," "Cerebro," in fact, "Treats for Medor" received a good readership and recognition of the professional audience. In 2018, Andriy Bondar's book was among the finalists of the Yuri Shevelyov Prize. This year Andriy Bondar is a laureate of the Prize.

The book of essays "Treats for Medor" (Old Lion Publishing House) covers the events from 2017 to 2020 inclusive. Cooper does not write directly about the hot news of the time. It is a stimulus to broader philosophical reflections. Thus, the law on language will lead to thoughts on symbolic capital, which in our country has been Ukrainian-speaking since the 1990s (and no other capital instead). Thus, anti-corruption initiatives will form the author's hypothesis that we are all in a situation after the Revolution of Dignity - a transitional type: we already know how not to; we still do the best we can. Therefore, the author is inspired to measure the "potential for exchanging principles for interests." "Treats for Medor" is a very, wildly personal historical chronicle. And the primary setting of this intimate historiography is: "Is it possible not to endure what we have already endured and experienced?".

Oleksandr Savruk, dean of the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School, one of the initiators of the award and a member of the chapter, presented the award to Andriy Bondar. In his congratulations to the laureate, Savruk noted: the genre is a living, diverse essay, represented by different figures and voices. And he only joked in part that today not only the best author of the article of 2021 had been named, but the following essays of representation policy necessary for the promotion of essays have been revealed: next year Andriy Bondar will present a more robust cohort of Ukrainian essayists than ever.

In 2021, three books were published in the finals of the Yuri Shevelyov Prize - "Treats for Medor" by Andriy Bondar, "20 + 1, or Land of the Dead" by Pavel Volvach, and "Fresh Eye. Taras Shevchenko for the modern reader " by Vladimir Dibrova.

The Yuri Shevelyov Prize was established in 2013 by the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School, the Ukrainian Center of the International PEN Club, and the Dukh I Litera publishing house. It celebrates the best original book of artistic and scientific essays. The award is presented on December 17 - Yuri Shevelyov's birthday.

Congratulations to the winner and everyone involved!
